New Ferrari 488 Pista revealed!

Ferrari has unveiled the new successor to the Ferrari 458 Speciale ahead of the Geneva Motor Show which is called the Ferrari 488 Pista . The meaning of Pista is track in Italian which is where the car really belong to! The Ferrari 488 Pista is unmistakably based on the road-going Ferrari 488 GTB and it has significant changes to the exterior of the car. The Ferrari 488 Pista comes with an F1-inspired S-Duct that is integrated with the front diffuser and the front diffusers are positioned at a ramp angle to provide strong suction to improve its downforce level. In addition, the design of the rear blown spoiler has been totally redesigned to be higher and longer compared to the Ferrari 488 GTB. All of these changes related to aerodynamic contributed to a 20% increase in downforce compared to the 488 GTB.

Powering this new Ferrari 488 Pista is a 3.9L twin turbo V8 engine producing an output of 710HP and 770 NM of torque. Thats an increment of 50HP and 10NM of torque from the 3.9L twin turbo V8 that can be found in the 488 GTB. As a result, acceleration is borderline ridiculous with a 0-100 km/h time of 2.85 seconds, 0-200 km/h time of 7.6 seconds and the top speed of the car is 340 km/h. The weight of the new Ferrari 488 Pista is 1280kg (dry) which is 90kg lower than the road-going 488GTB. This is the result of the wide usage of carbon-fibre parts, lighter crankshaft and flywheel, inconel exhaust manifold, carbon-fibre intake plenums and titanium con rods.

The interior is much more hardcore and aggressive than the Ferrari 488GTB. Lightweight materials such as carbon-fibre and alcantara are widely used in the interior. Besides that, floor mats are not fitted into the car, windows are thinner, lesser sound deadening materials and lighter carbon ceramic brakes. Thus NVH level in the Ferrari 488 Pista will be significantly higher than the road going Ferrari 488 GTB to give a more raw and involving experience to the driver and the passenger in the car.

Ferrari has also beefed up its software components that control the handling dynamics of the Ferrari 488 Pista. The new 488 Pista comes with a 6th generation Side-Slip Angle Control system (SSC). SSC version 6 incorporates and integrates systems such as the E-Diff3, F1-Trac, the magnetorheological suspension (SCM) and Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer (FDE). Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer is a Ferrari software that adjusts the brake pressure at the callipers which Ferrari claim is the world’s first. The new Ferrari 488 Pista will be displayed at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March.
