BMW Group Malaysia and Sime Darby Auto Engineering (SDAE) officially kick-started the Engine Assembly Facility in Malaysia for BMW engines. Production for BMW engines is scheduled to start in May 2018. The assembly Facility is located in Kulim, Kedah.
The assembly facility will focus on the assembly of 3- and 4-cylinder petrol engines, coupled with 4-cylinder diesel engines, as well as the 3- and 4- cylinder combustion engines for the Plug-In Hybrid electric vehicle.
Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Abdullah, Chairman of Sime Darby Berhad (4th from left) also asserts that “Sime Darby Motors’ vision is to be the preferred contract assembly partner for the most dynamic automakers in ASEAN. We aim to produce more than 50,000 vehicles as well as the engine parts and components for the vehicles by the year 2020. The new Sime Darby Auto Engineering (SDAE) Engine Assembly Facility opened today takes us one giant leap forward in making this goal a reality.”
The assembly facility is built on a land site than spans over 6 acres together with a built-up area of 8,500 square metres. Total investment for this assembly facility is at RM 132 million by Sime Darby Auto Engineering (SDAE). The main purpose of this new engine assembly facility is to support BMW Group Malaysia’s surging demand for locally assembled vehicles with the newest capabilities in engine assembly technology and to support the premium automaker’s export plans to other markets in the region.
The assembly facility is equipped with a myriad of latest and innovative technologies for engine assembly such as the EST tightening equipment, Dosing and Bonding Technology (DoboTech) equipment, engine engraving, engine oil filling and test machines for hydraulic valve play compensation, leak tests as well as hot and cold testing.
This new assembly facility will provide an additional 60 person in its total workforce. Hence, both BMW Group Malaysia and Sime Darby Auto Engineering (SDAE) shows a commitment to grow employment opportunities as well as career growth prospects within the local job market in the Kulim Hi-Tech area.
