Lamborghini reveals the new Huracán Performante Spyder

Lamborghini pulls the wrap off the new Huracán Performante Spyder. The Spyder is powered by a 5.2-litre V10 engine producing 640HP at 8,000 RPM and 600NM of torque at 6,500 RPM, with 70% of its total torque output is readily available at 1,000 RPM. The Spyder tips the scale at 1,507 kg (35 kg lighter than the standard Hucaran Spyder) dry which is impressive considering the fact that it’s a convertible.

Power is distributed on to the road through a 7-speed double clutch automatic gearbox paired with a permanent four-wheel drive system to provide insane grip to propel the car from 0-100 km/h in 3.1 seconds. The Spyder will accelerate from 0-200km/h in 9.3 seconds and the top speed is rated at 325 km/h. These are mind-boggling figures…

The exterior is a carbon fibre galore. Lamborghini made full use of forged composite which can be forged into many different complex geometrical shapes. This can be found in the front and rear spoiler, engine bonnet, rear bumper and aerodynamic diffuser which is part of the ALA (Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva) system that is found in the coupe variant.

The ALA system varies aero load in different conditions requiring either high down force or low drag, as well as enabling aero vectoring in high-speed cornering, therefore providing excellent driving dynamics on both track and road regardless of any driving condition. Here is a video explaining you how the ALA works :

The ALA system works in harmony with Lamborghini’s Piattaforma Inerziale (LPI) electronic system. The LPI system controls every single electronic units in the car in real time together with driving setups as well as activating the ALA in 500 milliseconds to ensure the best aerodynamic setup in any driving condition. Impressive isn’t it!

The lightweight, electrohydraulic roof complements the Spyder’s distinctive lines both open and closed, and maintaining rigidity, handling and performance. The Spyder is still a very stiff car even though it is a convertible thanks to its high rigidity body.

Moving on to the roof, it takes 17 seconds to open and close and can be operated at speeds up to 50 km/h. The design of the Huracán Performante Spyder features 2 movable fins that rise out of the folding roof casing and attach the roofline from seatbacks to the rear of the car, portraying its distinctive silhouette. With the roof down, it definitely adds a new dimension of driving pleasure to the already supreme driving experience of the Performante.

An integrated duct fin can be found in between of those 2 fins to reduce turbulence in the headroom while driving with the top opened. Another 2 additional removable wind guards can be found in the interior to damp lateral aerodynamic pulsations, to ensure “perfect acoustic comfort” which allows conservation even at high speeds.

“The Huracán Performante Spyder takes the zenith of Huracán developments, combined with the enhanced emotion of driving a convertible,” says Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Automobili Lamborghini.
