2019 BMW X4 facelift, controversial design?
Interior is as usual, spot on
With the unveiling of the 2019 new generation G02 BMW X4, bitter controversies have been raised within the car community regarding the new model’s exterior design. BMW included in their press release that the new X4 has the sporting elegance of a classical coupe. Bold statement, but we’re not quite convinced that an SUV has quite the level of sophistication and charm as a classical coupe, and even if it does, is the BMW X4 the one to represent the lot. One thing we all can agree on is that the car isn’t a conventionally beautiful looking car, but based on experience, a better judgement of the car’s looks will be better when seen in the flesh. The physical size of the BMW X4 is similar to the X3 with a sloping roof line towards the back of the car which is similar to the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe. BMW has been emphasizing on the X4 being a crossover rather than an SUV in which we reckon is an effort to depict the car as a more exuberant option compared to its competitor. We will leave the judging of the design to you folks.
The interior of this new generation BMW X4 is business as usual, with the famous BMW interior design that looks really neat and tidy. High quality materials are being used across the interior accompanied with metallic coloured buttons and knobs that are so very satisfying to look at. On the front sits a 10.3-inch BMW iDrive system that can control vast amounts of functions such as air-conditioning, satellite navigation, media, audio settings etc. Options are also available such as the electroplated control switches, panoramic sunroof, head up display, ambient lightning, ambient air package, 3-zone automatic climate control and the driver assistant plus which features semi autonomous driving.
Dimension wise, the all new BMW X4 is now 4752 millimeters long, 1918 millimeters, and 1.621 meters tall. It also boast a perfect 50:50 weight distribution that enhances the handling of the car. The leg room in the rear seats is extended by 27 millimeter as well. Boot space is excellent with 525 Liters of loading space that can be expanded into 1,430 liters when the rear seats are folded down. Buyers can opt for the optional sensatec faux leather trimming material above the instrument panel and door shoulders. Vernasca leather is solely available in the BMW X4 that has a Tacora Red paint as well as black in the M sport models with a choice of red or blue contrast stitching.
Time and again, BMW have gotten their interior on point. Buttons are well organized and positioned which makes it very easy to use. The iDrive system is class leader in the industry with easy to use interface, excellent speed as well as excellent clarity of the screen. The new G02 BMW X4 might come with the new gesture control that can be found in the current generation G30 5-series that reads hand gestures to adjust audio volume, accepting or rejecting a call etc.
The all new BMW X4 is offered with 3 different models that can be tailored to any variants ranging from the xDrive 20i all the way to the top of the range xDrive M40i. The xLine comes with matt aluminium window graphic with xLine upholstery. For those who would want a sportier look, the M Sport and the M Sport X are the ones to look for. Both are pretty similar except for the cladding strip in frozen grey, Tacora Red leather upholstery and design elements in Frozen Grey that can be found in the M Sport X model. Thus the M Sport X model has a more rugged look
Engines and performance
